Fifth graders acknowledge and respond thoughtfully to the ideas of others. They exhibit complex written language through the effective use of narrative and descriptive writing. They read and respond to books personally significant to them. They are able to use metacognition thinking allowing them to see the deeper nuances of images found in their young minds.
