Third grade musicians can now recognize simple meter and move to beats grouped by two’s, three’s, and four’s, using songs from various cultures, including those from the Philippines. They can sing and demonstrate phrases in songs and music pieces. They are able to distinguish melodic direction that move by steps, leaps, and repetition. They engage in harmonious singing using rounds and ostinatos. They can distinguish vocal tone color (man, woman, children) and instrumental tone color (string, percussion, wind, keyboard) through listening exercises. They too, explore various ways of changing vocal tone color using songs, poems, and chants.
