Level: GRADE 3
Subject: MATH
The Grade Three Mathematics curriculum aims to develop the critical thinking skills of students through solving of problems with a higher level of difficulty. It involves the interpretation of different graphical representations of data and deduction of rules involved in the given instances.
It also requires the students to organize, compare and order numbers, round off numbers, look for patterns and identify place value relationships through hundred thousands. It offers more complex concepts in geometry like preimeter, area, volume and even coordinate grids. It also provides opportunities for the children to explore solids, shapes, segments, angles, symmetry and congruence.
It gives students a chance to add or subtract 4 to 6 digit numbers with or without regrouping and to multiply or divide numbers with or without remainder. The curriculum trains the students to be adept in finding patterns useful in the four fundamental operations of numbers. Furthermore, it affords freedom to the students to choose the method they are comfortable when dealing with various word problems.
Math 3 offers customary and metric linear measurement as well as chances for exploring capacity, weight and temperature. it also presents different instances of probability such as likely and unlikely, predictions, fair and unfair choices. It has a more comprehensive discussion and exercises on fractions and the concept of decimals are explored here.
It provides different games and group activities that foster camaraderie and cooperation among students. The various activities encourages different learning styles.
